We'd heard all the good reports, and now we’ve lived it: the Finke two-day experience on a Sherco 500 SEF Factory with the Alice Springs-based Outback Motorcycle Adventures.
It's an experience for the ages, with the big Shercos easily taming the ever-shifting deep sand of the iconic Finke track, and the slick organisation from Outback is second to none: excellent planning and preparation, and then superb logistical support, local knowledge and catering. You won't be left hungry, that's for sure…
And not forgetting the conviviality and professionalism from all the Outback gang: Vroomy, Damo, Don, Tab and Jeff.
No stone is left unturned – Outback even prepares for all contingencies, like bringing along spare towels for those who forget them...
As well as the Finke track, the riders also headed off-piste for some dry river runs and extra sand dunes.
And we also caught a glimpse of Callum Norton completing some pre-Finke Desert Race preparation on the Motul Pirelli Sherco Race Team 500 SEF Factory. And it was only a peep show: he was flying!
Even with the inevitable mental and physical fatigue thrown into the mix, we all arrived back in Alice Springs full of beans.
