The 2023 racing season has officially commenced with the first round of the inaugural Australian SuperEnduro Championship, held in Ballarat (VIC) on February 25th.

The newly launched Motul Sherco Hard Enduro team exhibited flashes of brilliance as they battled the extremely challenging course, slippery conditions, and a slew of international riders to all finish inside the top 10 overall after two motos and three sprints.

19-year-old hard enduro sensation Tom Woodhouse, a Sherco-supported satellite rider, utilised his tremendous trials skills traversing the demanding obstacles, which saw the young Tasmanian consistently battle up the front with the leaders and finish third in the last Super Sprint for fifth overall.

Sherco’s factory hard enduro line-up followed with Chris Perry, Tim Coleman, and Anthony Solar finishing in sixth, seventh and eighth overall, respectively. Each rider had their moments battling up front, however, the brutal nature of the SuperEnduro racing’s format penalised even the smallest of mistakes which ultimately hindered the overall result.

“The first round of the new SuperEnduro series was a lot of fun, especially the opportunity to mix things up with some top international riders,” said Chris Perry.

“It was a tough weekend overall, but we have many positives to take away with us. We’ll regroup and shift our focus towards the upcoming Australian Hard Enduro Championship in April”, concluded Perry.

The French marquee was also well-represented in the supporting classes, providing fans with plenty of entertainment and perhaps an appreciation of the skills required to compete in SuperEnduro racing. Privateer Sherco riders Chris Cash and Connor Hennessy both traded wins in the Expert class, finishing on the podium in second and third, respectively. Matthew Hannaford proved age is merely a number, claiming third overall in the Veterans class.

The Australian SuperEnduro Championship series will take a pause with a view to returning later in the year.

The 2023 Australian Hard Enduro Championship begins with the Kosciuszko Killer in VIC on April 1st and 2nd.
