Fresh from an excellent sixth place in the 2021 Dakar Rally, Sherco factory rider Lorenzo Santolini has continued his rich vein of form by securing the runner-up spot at the Andalucia Rally in Spain.
After 1600km, of which 1244km were special stages, Santolini, aboard the Sherco 450 SEF Rally, finished three-and-a-half minutes behind fellow Spaniard Joan Barreda Port in the May 12-16 event.
Santolini’s excellent result came after he fell heavily in training before the event and dislocated his shoulder. That didn’t seem to slow him down, though, as he won the opening two stages before a crash in stage three relegated him to third overall.
He then rallied to climb back up a position on the final day to finish ahead of third-placed Chilean, Pablo Quintanilla.
Santolini’s Sherco factory teammate, former world motocross star Rui Goncalves, finished in 10th position despite suffering a bout of food poisoning during the event.
Forty-five riders made the finish line in the gruelling event.
Next up for the Sherco Rally team is round one of the 2021 Cross-Country Rallies World Championship in Kazakhstan from June 7-13.
