The Motul Pirelli Sherco Team is backing Andy Wilksch at this weekend’s Wildwood Rock Extreme to be the first four-stroke rider across the line. Wilksch is no stranger to the extreme enduro event having attempted it in 2015 but failing to finish.
Wilksch has raced with the Motul Pirelli Sherco Team since 2017 and has become a mainstay in the Australian Off-Road Championship and the Hattah Desert Race. Extreme enduro is a discipline Wilksch has limited experience in, yet he expects to be competitive at Wildwood.
“Hard enduro is quite different to what I have been racing the past few years, but I’m keen to get amongst it,” said Wilksch. “Wildwood is a great event and it’s bloody hard work. While my main focus is preparing for the 2020 race season, Wildwood will be a good, tough event for me to put my skills up against the best hard enduro racers in Australia. I’m super keen to attack it.”
Whilst the extreme conditions of hard enduro attracts plenty of two-stroke competitors, Wilksch will race a Motul Pirelli Sherco 300 SEF Factory edition.
“Most riders like two-strokes in hard enduro because they’re relatively light, but the Sherco 300 SEF is just 102kg,” Wilksch explained. “It’s lite and really nimble plus it can find traction where most bikes can’t. I’m not saying I’m going to be on the podium, but I reckon I’m more than a fair chance of being the first four-stroke rider across the line.”
Wilksch will be along side Factory Sherco rider and hard enduro superstar Wade Young for the duration of the 2019 Wildwood Rock Extreme. No doubt, being in such high calibre company will put Wilksch in good stead for the main race.
Wildwood Rock Extreme will take place at 227 Feehans Road, Wildwood which is 20-minute’s-drive from Melbourne airport. The event will begin at 9:00am on Sunday November 10, 2019.
