Up and coming Victorian racer Angus Gelly will race a Sherco 500 SEF Factory edition in 2019 with backing from Miller Motosports. The Warnambool Sherco dealership is supporting the 19 year-old racer who established himself as a serious contender in the Finke and Hattah desert race events in 2018.
“I had the opportunity to test ride a Sherco a few weeks ago and it was good,” Gelly explained. “Straight out of the box the 500 Factory model was really good, so I decided then and there I want to race one this year.”
With a passion for racing and an eye for talent, Miller Motosports extended an offer of support to Gelly which set the foundation for what both parties expect will be a fruitful partnership in 2019.
“Angus was keen to get on a Sherco and he’s just too good of a rider not to support,” said Miller Motosport director Ash Miller. “I think Angus will be good for Sherco. He showed last year he’s fast at the big events with 6th at Finke and 7th at Hattah and we’ll be doing what we can to give him his best chance at those events this year. The new Sherco 500 SEF Factory is the best bike for the job so we think Angus will enjoy it.”
Gelly has scheduled some club motocross events along with selected rounds of the Australian Off-Road Championship into his 2019 racing calendar but will concentrate on the Finke Desert Race and the Hattah Desert Race.
“Desert racing is what I want to do,” said Gelly. “My goal is to try and better my 2018 results and go top for the top five at Finke and Hattah. I’ve been training really hard over the summer because I want to better myself.”
