Wildwood Rock Extreme dished up all of its nastiness in full force to Hamish and Angus Macdonald in 2016. The Kiwi brothers battled the extreme course and despite very respectable results of 10th and 12th in the Pro Class respectively for Hamish and Angus, they’ve vowed to go much better in 2017.
If recent form is any indication you can expect to see the Sherco-mounted brothers in the thick of the action. Angus claimed the 2017 New Zealand Enduro Championship earlier this year with younger brother Hamish placing third. Since dominating the National enduro podium, the Macdonald boys have switched their attention to Wildwood Rock.
“I love technical enduros and extreme enduros,” stated 20-year-old Angus. “The muddier and harder the better. I usually ride the Sherco 300 SEF-R but I’ll race the 250 SE-R two-stroke at Wildwood.”
Despite the Macdonald’s preference for mud, it’s more than likely the 2017 Wildwood Rock Extreme will be a dry race.
“I’m keen to get back over to Wildwood,” said Hamish. “I’ve been focussing on speed and technical skills in between balancing work commitments. I have been getting into the gym and spending time on the Sherco and I am hoping for rain at Wildrock.”
With rain unlikely, Hamish can find some comfort knowing he will ride a Sherco 300 SE-R two-stroke, the same machine on which he claimed the 2017 New Zealand two-stroke enduro championship. At just 18 years of age, Hamish is intent on making a name for himself at Wildwood Rock.
The Macdonald bothers are no strangers to extreme enduro competition having raced the infamous Red Bull Romanics in 2016 where Angus placed second in the Silver category with brother Hamish third.
