Talented Victorian off-road rider Mitcham Harper will make his return to racing at the up-coming Insure My Ride Australian Enduro-X Nationals that kicks off in Brisbane, February 7.
Harper sustained life threatening injuries in a riding incident in December 2013 but has decided to return to racing.
“I was pretty crook,” Harper explained. “I suffered broken vertebra, punctured lungs, bruised heart and kidneys and a lacerated liver. It’s been a long road to recovery but I’ve concentrated on my health and I’m looking forward to racing again and having some fun.
The popular rider has achieved a lot in his 23 years, having represented Australia at the International Six Day Enduro on three occasions (2009, 2011, 2012), each time finishing with a gold medal. Harper also won the inaugural Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro in 2010.
Despite a year away from racing, Harper is excited to be back doing what he loves most and is thrilled to be backed by Sherco.
“It’s great to be on a Sherco. The 300SEF-R is such an under-rated bike. It’s a lot of fun to ride and I know I’ll enjoy racing it. My plan is to just have fun with my racing. I know I won’t break any records just yet but if I’m having fun I know the results will come.
“People might say I’m stupid for racing again but I learnt a lot from my injuries and the time off. I know how to train properly and racing is what I love doing. I’m just keen to get back into racing.”
“The Motul Pirelli Sherco Enduro Team is proud to have Mitch on board,” explained Sherco Australia brand manager, Stephen Tuff.
“Mitch is an extremely talented rider with plenty of racing experience. We’re proud he’s chosen to return to racing on a Sherco and we’ll be doing our best to see him succeed.”
