Nathan Trigg is a man from the land and has a unique affinity with he desert. Living and working on a farm in Ouyen in the north west of Victoria has provided the perfect upbringing for the desert racer. Vast open spaces, plenty of sand and desire to race a motorcycle have helped mould the 25 year-old into a gifted competitor.
The four-time Finke class winner will race a Motul Pirelli Sherco 450 SEF Factory edition in 2019 Finke Desert Race. Although ambitious for a top-five outright result the likeable larrikin is level-headed about the race ahead.
“Last year was my first on a Sherco and the bike was good, but this year it’s so much better,” Trigg explained. “We have that experience from last year and even though we won the 450cc class, we knew we could improve. We’ve done our homework with setting up the bike so I should be able to ride faster.”
Trigg is a talent on the bike. His easy flowing style seemingly making light work of the treacherous conditions that desert racing presents and his practical approach to the task at hand has earned him a reputation as a smart racer.
“I always say, to finish first, first you must finish. I’m hoping to get a top-five overall result and the 450cc class win again. I’m pretty consistent and set on finishing. And I have trust in this bike. The Sherco is fast and reliable and I’m feeling confident on it in any situation. Being able to ride it confidently is what makes it fast. The Motul Pirelli Sherco Team and Chad’s Off-Road Setups have done a great job on the bike. Now it’s up to me.”
The Finke Desert Race will be held in Alice Springs over the June long weekend, June 7 -10. Up to 600 riders will race a 226km track south from Alice Springs to Apatula on the ancient Finke River before racing back to Alice Springs the following day.
