Motorcycle Land Ballarat and Sherco Motorcycles joined forces with Justin Carafa to dominate the 250cc two-stroke class at the 2018 Hattah Desert Race. Returning to the event for the first time since 2015, Carafa was in blistering form and was never challenged in the quarter litre two-stroke division.
“I started the race in 23rd position and I didn’t really plan on riding in so much dust,” said Carafa. “It was crazy out there and I rode in caution mode. I knew I wasn’t going to be super competitive for an outright position against the big capacity bikes but I rode smart and got the class win for Motorcycle Land and Sherco.
Carafa’s win was especially impressive considering he had less than hour’s practice and testing on the bike only a few days before the event. Despite the limited preparation Carafa finished the race a clear lap ahead of his nearest class rival.
“Derek Grundy at Sherco and Matt Brown from Motorcycle Land prepared me a fantastic bike,” Carafa continued. “It was a lot of fun to ride. I could really throw it around. This was the longest and toughest race I have done for three years but I’m happy to put the Sherco on the podium.”
Carafa will now turn his attention to the MX Nationals in NSW this coming weekend where he will attempt to increase his championship points lead in the 125 Gold Cup aboard a Motorcycle Land Sherco 125 SE-R.
