Sherco’s Wade Young has continued his climb to the elite of extreme enduro by placing third outright at the 2016 Red Bull Romaniacs. The South African rider put the field on notice when he won Day-1 after starting in eighth position following the prologue in Sibiu, Romania.
Riding a Sherco 250SE-R two-stroke, Young battled the best of the best for four days through the infamous Carpathian Mountains and backed up his win of Day-1 with the win on the fourth and final day of racing. Young’s performance good enough to earn the final podium placing overall in the prestigious Gold category.
Red Bull Romaniacs is one of the most highly anticipated extreme enduro events in the world. The prologue is a massive drawcard for thousands of fans onsite and millions watching online around the globe. Young’s performance on the Sherco certainly caught the attention of extreme enduro fans.
“It was a super tough race,” Young said after it was over. “I started in eighth but quickly worked my way up to the leaders on day-1. The highlight for me was winning day-1 and day-4.”
New Zealand brothers Angus and Hamish Macdonald contested the Silver category at Romaniacs and were in the mix from the beginning. Both Sherco mounted, the Macdonald boys displayed great skill and determination to finish on the podium. Angus finished in second place and Hamish in third behind Andrew Noakley of Great Britain.
