Sherco 2001: The revolution of
trials. |
| |
The third generation of Sherco trial
bikes will be a complete revolution in the trial segment. The new Sherco of
2001 capitalizes on the experience from the former models, and features
important novelties in conception which make it totally exclusive regarding
performance, design, weight and quality.
The new Sherco is the result of hard
testing work in intense sessions in testing stands and material analysis labs,
as well as dynamic testing on very different conditions and all type of
terrain. The result is the lightest and most compact bike in the market, with
performance high above the average and much below the pollution levels
prescribed by current law. |
|
|
At first sight, the Sherco catches your
eye with its simple lines and compact aspect. One of the elementswhich have
contributed the most to the redefinition of the new bike is the elimination of
the big final muffler, now built in one piece and integrated in the centre of
the frame. This has allowed the engineers to design a much more efficient and
silent filter box, which contributes to a reduction and re-positioning of the
weight, settinga new reference for future trial bikes. |

The new Sherco is the fist trial bike to stand
below the 70kg line, which makes it the lightest trial bike available ever.
This loss of weight has been achieved in two ways: redesigning some parts and
using advanced technology in the manufacturing process. One of the elements
undergoing such a radical change is the exhaust pipe. All the silencer elements
have been joined into one, which has also been built in aluminium. This fact
improves the noise reduction and reduces pollution significantly thanks to the
carefully designed inside shape, which, together with a new cylinder layout and
the use of unleaded petrol, leaves the pollution figures clearly below the
legal limits. The elimination of the final muffler and the fact that it is
built in aluminium have lowered the final weight. The manufacturing process of
the fuel tank has been revised as well, although the shape is similar to the
former model. It is lighter and more resistant thanks to the use of the latest
technology in plastic injection, which has also been used for the rest of the
bodywork, further amplifying the weight benefits. |

The weight reduction of the new Sherco comes
together with important quality controls of all the parts, some of which have
taken place at the Idiada, the Centro de Tecnificación de Tarragona,
where the pollution testings have been carried out. The improvement in the
quality of the Sherco starts at the very beginning of the manufacturing process
of all its parts, which undergo strict quality tests before they enter the
production chain in the Caldes de Montbuí factory. This reduces the
probabilty of mechanical failure to a symbolical minimum. |

Riding a Sherco has become an even greater
pleasure. Now the riding is more relaxed and safe thanks to its balance and
manageability, together with the elastic and powerful engine. With the new
weight layout, together with the lower weight, the centre of gravity of the the
motorbike has changed, bringing along an important increase in stability even
with the motorbike standing still. This, together with the freedom of movement
of the rider, eases your way to overcome any obstacle without any effort and
with the maximum safety. |

-
Revolutionary exhaust system
New all-in-one silencer made from stamped aluminum. This exclusive Sherco
design improves engine smoothness, lowers CO2 emissions, and reduces weight by
1.5 kg., contributing in part to the new overall bike weight of only 69 kg.
-
Lower gravity center. The
new compact exhaust and air filter box design and 2 cm lower seat design create
a lower center of gravity to enhance your balance experience. The overall
geometry of the bike has been changed to make the bike feel even lighter and
more stable.
-
Improved rear suspension.
New progressive Olle shock absorber with an advanced progression curve makes
the bike more agile while performing new riding techniques required in today's
no-stop sections.
