Continuing
to forge ahead
|
| The year 2005 marks another
very important milestone for Sherco; launching into the production
of four stroke equipped motorcycles in a multitude of off-road
disciplines. This achievement, although undoubtedly significant,
is merely the continuation of a journey that was started six
years ago, when Marc Teissier decided to develop an entirely
new motorcycle for the world wide trials market. Marc surrounding
himself with a very competent team that could design, build
and market his dream, he also procured the necessary facilities
to make the dream a reality. The one trials model became two
and now includes a full line. The steps taken have been unhurried
but have been a natural progression. The debut into the trials
market was a complete success, a passion that Teissier had in
common with the rest of his collaborators, but Shercos
ambitions went much further nothing more than becoming
a world renown competitor in the off-road motorcycle market. |
|
|
With a wide range of trial bikes on their books, in 2002
Sherco entered the geared moped market, producing the Enduro
and Supermotard models, which have quickly made a name for
themselves in this market segment, thanks to victorious competition
campaigns and award-winning promotional championships.
At the end of 2002, Sherco opened their second production
plant at Nimes France, with a clear objective: to become the
production and development center for a future Enduro model
line, this is now a shining reality, Shercos first factory
in Caldes de Montbui (Spain) produces bikes exclusively for
the trials market.
2003 saw another milestone pass: the launch of the CityCorp
125 4T series, with two models, Enduro and Supermotard, representing
the companys entry into the booming 4T market, this
was just the beginning of another vital step in Shercos
history: entry into the world of large displacement enduro
motorcycles. This become a reality at the beginning of 2004,
with the official introduction of the new Sherco Enduro 4.5,
a one hundred percent Sherco bike equipped with an advanced
450 cc 4T motor with electronic fuel injection, and electric
start, this bike was designed, developed and manufactured
integrally by the Sherco team, it will be joined in 2005 by
its 250 cc sister, also boasting a brand new 4T especially
designed for this bike.
The constant expansion of the Sherco range of models was a
result of a desire to meet the varying needs of the world
wide off-road market, evidence of this is the development
of the new 4T trials bike which will be introduced in September
of 2004. This bike will be equipped with a 4T motor built
entirely by Sherco and developed at the PXC site, the Sherco
Trial Competition Department, which is directed by Josep Rovira
Paxau. This introduction will show that Sherco has developed
modern 4T engines for all its product lines, confirming the
brands vision of the future and the viability of the
project started by Marc Teissier six years ago.

Trial models
The
new Sherco 4T Trial: Star of the
most complete model line available
|
|
|
|
 |
|
|
For yet another year, the Sherco Trial Technical Team has
been working to again offer the most complete and effective
trials bike model line available. The Sherco 0.5, 0.8, 1.25,
2.0, 2.5 and 2.9 have each received individual updates and
changes necessary to keep them in the technological vanguard
that they are used to.
But, as well as these updates, the 2005 Sherco Trials model
lineup received a truly illustrious addition with the new
motorcycle equipped with a 4T engine wholly developed by PXC,
the Sherco Trial Competition Department which is directed
by Josep Rovira Paxau, once again showing its professionalism
with the lightest and most compact 4T trials bike on the market.
This new engine, developed in secret over a two year period,
has undergone all of the reliability tests imaginable, with
the aim of offering the best possible performance. This is
the only engine of this type in the world designed specifically
for the trials market, meaning that it is lighter and smaller
than the competition, with ideal performance for trials competition.
It has a lightweight 4 valve SOHC, liquid cooled, short stroke,
317 cc engine, developed to offer better levels of power,
better engine torque, better traction and efficiency than
those achieved to date by 2T designs. This was achieved after
thorough research into current trials needs, with clear objectives
set forth from the very beginning. Because the engineers were
able to start with a clean sheet of paper and not have to
modify an existing engine design, they were able to develop
a superior engine that is specifically designed for the trials
application. The result is the creation of a motorcycle which
will undoubtedly set a new standard in trials in the future.
The new Sherco 3.2 4T trials will have
the official presentation at the last World Trials Grand Prix,
held in Moutier (Swiss) on September 4th.

Sherco
50cc: different versions
Sherco
Shark Replica Enduro and Sherco Ipone Replica SM
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Since their introduction,
the Sherco Enduro and Supermotard 50 have reaped a crop of important
successes, both commercially and in the sports arena, including two
French Supermotard championships. Their secret lies in the perfect
combination of excellent features this year they have adopted
the latest generation of Minarelli Am6 engines to meet Euro2 regulations
added to fantastic performance both in sports and everyday
use, an excellent range of components and an up-to-date appearance
that is in line with current market trends, in the case of the Supermotard
version offering different specific versions. To the aforementioned
Champion de France, a replica of the championship bike
at the hands of Mike Valade, and Ipone Replica, 2005 will
introduce the Shark Replica, an aggressive look based
on the appearance of the well known helmet manufacturer.
The sporty nature of these motorbikes is reinforced by these different
versions, which year after year have shown their excellent performance
on the roads, also acting as a base for the successful Sherco
Cup, a stepping stone for new entries in motorcycle racing.

The CityCorp 125 4T was the
first bike to come out of the Sherco assembly plants equipped with
a four stroke engine. This versatile model comes in two versions:
Supermotard, aimed at road use, and Enduro, equipped with mixed-use
dirt/road tires and wheels. Both bikes are practical, economical,
easy to ride and ideal for those wanting a start in the biking world,
taking advantage of regulations which favor the 125 cc, for those
who appreciate the qualities of a bike that is ideal for day to day

New
Enduro 4.5i
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
2004 saw production start on the Enduro 4.5 i, model, the motorcycle
that heralds the arrival of Sherco into the medium and high displacement
professional Enduro motorcycle market.
The new Sherco 4.5 i has been unanimously praised and has garnered
excellent reviews from the specialty press throughout the world,
confirming the validity of the Sherco plan that we used when we
entered into the trial discipline: designing a simple and efficient
motorcycle that is easy to ride and is void of any unnecessary technical
complications to detract from the true pleasure of riding.
The Sherco Enduro 4.5 i engine has been wholly designed and produced
by Sherco. It is a single cylinder 4T, with an aluminum block, an
overhead camshaft, four valves and it is liquid cooled, with a total
displacement of 448.6 cc. An electronic fuel injection system takes
care of the intake, controlled by a digital Magneti Marelli control
system. It features an electric starter and also includes a kick
starter. It has a gear driven primary drive, a six-speed gearbox
and the clutch is hydraulically controlled. The exhaust pipe is
made of stainless steel and it is equipped with an aluminum muffler.
The chassis of the new Sherco Enduro 4.5i matches the high standard
of the bike. The frame is a simple cradle design that is made out
of chrome-molybdenum steel, with an aluminum rear detachable sub-frame.
The suspensions are state-of-the-art. The front suspension consists
of an inverted Paioli-Kayaba fork, with 46 mm fork tubes and forward
offset axle. The highlight of the rear suspension is a robust aluminum
swing arm, with an attached single gas rear shock absorber with
an aluminum structure, the spring preload is adjustable, the dampening
and compression are also adjustable and it works through a progressive
linkage system. Both axles are equipped with 270 mm (front) and
240 mm (rear) diameter disk brakes, with a four-piston caliper on
the front brake and a twin-piston caliper on the rear brake. The
two master cylinders, designed by AJP for Sherco, have an integrated
brake fluid container. The rims, built from aluminum by Excel, have
steel spokes and are equipped with Michelin competition tires front
and rear.

New
Enduro 2.5i
The
Enduro model line grows
|
|
 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
|
But the big news for 2005 is the arrival of a new Enduro model,
now with a cylinder displacement of 250 cc; it is ready to compete
in the European E1 category. Following as closely as possible to
the Sherco philosophy of providing a well thought out and manufactured
product to meet real needs, as with the Enduro 4.5 i and the new
4T Trial bike, this new Enduro 2.5 i is equipped with a totally
new engine and chassis, specially designed for this new model, removing
the need to change existing designs.
The new engine is a single cylinder 4T 250 cc, with a double overhead
camshaft, four valves, liquid cooling and it has an electric starter.
It is the lightest and most compact Enduro engine on the market,
and its whole design process was aimed at making a simple, reliable,
compact lightweight engine. The gears work by way of a dry sump,
which helps gain additional ground clearance. Like the 4.5 i, an
electronic fuel injection system takes care of the intake which
is controlled by a digital Magneti Marelli control system specially
designed for this new engine. The chassis of the new Enduro 2.5
i has been designed along the same lines, and is totally different
to models of higher cylinder displacement, it is designed to the
specifications -weight, measurements and features - of the new 250cc.
