Sherco and Manzano, youth and future

The Junior World Championship achieved by Manzano on the new Sherco is the result of a good job which started in the very moment when the young rider, who comes from a little town called Navàs, in Barcelona, joined the Sherco team in a very young project but with great future prospects.

Hardly one year after this union, the results could not have been better, and the World Championship title is the prize to the bet for the young rider that Sherco made.

Already in last year's season, Manzano was widely acclaimed when he achieved significant results which took him to the second place in the European Championship and to great performances in the Junior World Championship.

This season, Sherco trusted in 'Mansi' to face the assault to the world ceptre, and the first great success is already here, before the championship has come to an end, which proves the superiority of the Sherco-Manzano partnership. From the moment he joined Sherco, Manzano's progression has been constant, thanks to the support of a complete team in a calm atmosphere which is resulting in his constant presence among the elite of the World Championship.

Manzano has also become the main focus of the French trial, where he is leading the championship masterly. The next target of the team is the European Championship, which will start on 22 July in France, and will consist on five rounds. Manzano, knowing that the Junior World title is already in his hands, also wants to keep progressing in the overall rankings, already thinking of future seasons.

A great crash !! During the last round in Italy, Manzano gets the ugly fall to section 15. The Spanish pilot has been carried of urgency in hospital to Bergamo for one tac, turned out nothing of serious.

See the big crash --->

 The manufacturing process

Foresight, control and quality

When the Sherco customers use any model for the first time, they close a manufacturing process in which many professionals tackle meticulously all the tasks in the different manufacturing cycles of a motorbike. Thus, the Sherco customers face their first obstacles with their new motorbikes with the total security of counting on the guarantee of a manufacturer that boasts accuracy and quality in all their processes.

Once the manufacturer's technical department has developed and checked the viability of any part of the Sherco bikes, the next step is its preparation for the series production before the new parts are received in the assembly line. Only the pre-assembly and final assembly of the motorbike are performed in the Sherco factory, and the manufacturing process is produced by external companies which provide the parts ready for their assembly. When the parts enter the Sherco factory, they undergo a quality control before they enter the production sections.

After the quality controls and their classification in the production control schedule, the parts are distributed in two pre-assembly areas, one called the Engine Zone and one corresponding to the Motorbike Package, where the parts will be assembled in groups thanks to the work performed previously. This has resulted in a reduction in the final assembly time, which allows 20 totally finished units to exit the assembly line every day.

The final production line starts with the preparation of the frames, which are attached to the line so as to receive all the motorbikes' parts. The complete engine is the first element that goes into the chassis, and it is followed by the rear end package; the swing arm and the suspension system. The radiator goes in prior to the complete wheels, the electric parts and the liquids. Finally, the Sherco receives the complete bodywork, which represents the final step in the assembly line to enter the area of final control and tests, where the last ckecking processes are done, as well as a dynamic test, before giving it the seal as a finished product to be distributed.

During all this production time in the Sherco factory, some 16 people take part in the different moments of its production. Before that, more than 60 companies will have manufactured the necessary parts for Sherco. At the moment, Sherco manages its production 90 days in advance, which allows them to start any phase of production with all the necessary elements to guarantee the continuous delivery of their new models.

Interview 20/06/2001 Graham Jarvis returns to the top after an injury which almost ended his career

British trials rider Graham Jarvis last season suffered on of the sport's most horrific injuries, breaking both of his knees. After a year long recovery process, Jarvis has returned to form and now lies fourth in the World Trial Championship standings with 114 points. Motograndprix.com caught up with the Sherco rider to discover the details of the injury and his recuperation.

Are you now totally over the injury?

Yes, I mean sometimes I look back on the injury and realise that at the end of the day I was quite lucky. The main thing is that I?m back on my bike because there were many moments when I thought I wouldn't be able to ride again and definitely not at such a high level.

Did you ever think about packing in on the possibility of returning to trial riding?

I had lots of time to think about what happens and sometimes that is not a good thing. After the doctor explained the problems I had with my knees I don't think I really understood the full extent of the injury. He told me that I wouldn't be able to get back on my bike for another seven months and maybe for some people that would mean the end of a sporting career. Fortunatelky that wasn't the case and now I'm lucky enough to be competing in the World Championships again.

Do you think such a serious injury can make you even more determined and work out as a help from a mental point of view?

I think so. Mainly it has taught me how to be mentally strong, and not be afraid of possible injuries, as I was before. I couldn't get on a motorcycle for seven months so I had to develop a mental toughness.

Who has helped you recover from the injury ?

My family, my friends and my girlfriend. Without them it would have been extremely difficult to get over such a problem.

What are your objectives for your first season back ?

I will be satisfied with a good, dignified position. The objective is not to get injured and to start having fun on a motorcycle again.
