MRS Sherco Rider's Graham Jarvis and Sam Connor took a fantastic
1 - 2 in the extremely prestigious Scottish-Six-Day-Trial.
Jarvis who made a late entry into the trial dominated all
week and was sitting at the top of the leader board every
night.
Six days of intensive riding in the extreme Scottish conditions
proved that Jarvis was still a step above his fellow competitors.
The weather was reminiscent of 2003 with cold wet showers
throughout the week. With a full entry of 280 riders all fighting
it out for the top spot it was Jarvis who had the situation
under control. The riders covered a total of 526 miles over
the six days. Battling with the elements and also some impressive
sections, it's a trial to test the skills and determination
of some of the most focused riders. Year after year the entry
is full and hundreds of people are declined entry, only the
lucky ones are accepted.
One of the biggest off road trials events in the World, the
Six Day Trial brings competitors from far and wide, from all
corners of the Globe, people who talk for months about the
famous SSDT. Discussing their routes and how they will tackle
the sections that they are faced with.
London based Sam Connor had a poor start to the week dropping
a total of 11 on Monday putting him down to 22nd place. It
was Connor's early start on Monday and he was faced with the
loose slippery sections and small dabs proved costly at the
end of the day. A tough feat for the young 23-year-old to
fight back from but fight back he did and slowly day by day
he raised his game and climbed his way back up the tables.
By Wednesday he was sitting comfortably in 3rd place behind
fellow Sherco rider Joan Pons. It was looking like a positive
Sherco 1 - 2 - 3 but Spaniard, and 2003 winner Pons gained
a number of maximum 5's on the latter days of the week, which
saw him finish the week in 8th position. With 1st 2nd and
8th Sherco managed to gain the Manufacturers Award to add
to their collection of Silverware.
World Number 5 Graham Jarvis, who originates from Kent but
has been an adopted Yorkshireman for the last 11 years after
moving up North to live with Manager and Minder Malcolm Rathmell,
was consistent throughout the week; losing an overall total
of 12 he took his third SSDT win. Having not ridden the Scottish
since 1999 Graham was welcomed with open arms by the hundreds
of people that had made the trip to Fort William to observe
this illustrious event. Jarvis made the trip worthwhile and
was inch perfect throughout the week, come rain or shine Jarvis
was on a mission to ensure he gained the win for Malcolm Rathmell
Sport and his Factory Sherco Team.
Commenting Jarvis said 'It's been a great week for me, and
the confidence boasts that I needed. The Scottish Six Days
is always an interesting trial and small marks are costly
as Sam showed on Monday, a few small dabs and you drop a lot
of places. I had to remain consistent throughout the week
and keep my mind focused.'
Malcolm Rathmell said 'It's been a good week for Sherco and
the team, Graham and Sam getting the 1 - 2 has been a great
achievement. It's the second year on the trot that Sherco
have won the trial. A lot of work goes into getting ready
for the SSDT but when you get a result like that it makes
it all worthwhile.'
Note: Graham's last win in 1999 was on the then new "Bultaco'"
by Sherco, a fantastic feat for a new motorcycle, with wins
in 1999, 2003 and 2004 it is obvious that Sherco is a world
class machine.

A more difficult test
bench for the world-wide debut of the new Sherco 4.5i could
not have been chosen. The Grand Prix of France, the fourth round
of the World-Wide Enduro Championship, presented the most difficult
conditions possible to test the reliability of the new machine.
The weather was absolutely horrendous with torrential rains,
bitter cold and deep mud channels that made the special tests
even more difficult. The Grand Prix is a long contest that tries
the strength and resistance of both man and machine, but Stefano
Passeri and the new Sherco 4.5i rose to the occasion and finished
both days of the event in very honorable places. Stefano finished
in 19th place on Saturday and 20th place on Sunday in the Enduro
2 class. Stefano and the Sherco factory were very pleased, they
felt for a new entry into the field these were outstanding results.
The team is looking forward to the next event with expectations
of improving on their performance.
Here is what Stefano had to say after the ride, "We
are very satisfied, we could not have asked for better conditions
to test the new bike, it proved to be an outstanding machine
for the conditions. It was indeed a laborious contest, on Saturday
I was blocked by a very deep mud rut on the last of the special
contests, I want to thank the spectators who helped me get out
of the mud, it was unfortunate that I got stuck as it cost me
some valuable time. On Sunday I crashed on the rocky area of
the extreme special test, I lost some precious time there but
I was able to continue the race. Since we are a new team we
did not have all of the information about the event that the
teams who have competed in the past. The results were truly
fantastic and give us real hope for the future; we believe there
is a large margin for improvement".
The other rider on the team is a very promising young Italian
named Maurizio Micheluz. In spite of his youth and lack of experience
in the
World Enduro Championship (this is his first year to compete)
he performed very well and finished an admirable 32nd place
in the Enduro 2 class on Saturday. Unfortunately he was not
able to finish the event on Sunday.
In any case he was very satisfied with his performance in this
very difficult event, especially since he only received notice
a few days before that he was going to compete.
Stefano and Maurizio will be diligently preparing themselves
for the next event which is scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd
of May.
