Sherco at the 2001 Motoshow |
|
| |
|
|

| |
 |
|
During the celebration
of the first International Motorcycle Show in Barcelona, the 2001
Motoshow, Sherco presented the third generation of the trial bikes that have
started a revolution in this sport. The 2001 Sherco bikes carry on all the
experience from former models, and their concept features important novelties,
which make them totally exclusive regarding design, performance and
quality. |

|
Sherco presented four
new bikes. The revised Sherco 1.25 and 2.0, fitting the new 125c and
200cc engines, adopt the new and revolutionary frame designed by the Sherco
technicians, the lightest and most compact in the market, which gives the bike
a simplicity of lines never seen before. One of the greater contributions to
the redefinition of the new Sherco is the elimination of the bulky final
muffler, which has now become a single unit integrated in the centre of the
bike. The new 1.25 and 2.0 models have the same parameters as the 2.5 and 2.9
bikes regarding aesthetics and the frame, with the different cylinder size
being the only variation. |

Great public attendance in the first edition of the motorbike show |

According the
organisation, the Motoshow's 50,000 square metres were visited by over 165,000,
and the Sherco stand was one of the most visited during the five days of the
fair. The stand featured all the models that the manufacturer has in the market
at the moment. Apart from the ones mentioned above, there were also the Sherco
0.5, the penultimate model incorporated in the range. Andreu Codina,
Sherco's Commercial Manager, said "Our stand was the only one clearly
centred on the trial world, and our motorbikes have created a great expectation
among the specialists in this type of motorbikes." |

New Sherco 1.25 and 2.0 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The new 1.25 and 2.0
models were introduced at the Barcelona Motoshow, featuring the bodywork of
their bigger sisters, the 2.5 and 2.9. Like their bigger range counterparts,
the 1.25 and the 2.0 are leaders in lightweight and innovation. In the new
models, the novelties go further than skin deep. The elimination of the big
final muffler, replaced by the aluminium-built single central unit, has allowed
the engineers to work on the engine performance as well, with a significant
improvement in the power curve, increased elasticity and lower emissions and
fuel use. The 1.25 and the 2.0 are two strong options for younger riders to
gather the necessary experience, with performances more adequate to their ages.
The most adequate to the young riders is the 125, whereas the 200 offers a
performance level similar to the bigger models but slightly more controlled,
ideal for trial at a more moderate level. With the presentation of these two
motorbikes in the 2001 range, Sherco counts now on five models, starting with
the small 0.5 and going all the way up to the powerful 2.9. They will soon be
joined by another bike, the 80cc, which will complete the Sherco trial
range. |

| Great debut of Freixa in the Indoor World
Championship |
 |
|
Marc Freixa, the rider
of the Team Otyan Sherco, has conquered the second place of the rostrum
in three of the events held so far, being the only rider to challenge the
reigning world champion and current leader of the series, the British rider
Doug Lampkin. Freixa has also been the only rider capable of beating the world
champion, which he did on the first day of the Turin Indoor Trial. Freixa is
showing a very high level in his first season in the Indoor Trial World
Championship, and in spite of his short experience in this type of competition,
his adaptation to the Sherco 2.9 has been extremely fast, being one of the main
contenders to the final podium places of the championship. |
